  1. What is Podiatry?
  2. Podiatry is a field of medicine focusing on the foot and related structures of the lower limb. Diagnosing, preventing and treating conditions of the foot and ankle using medical, surgical, mechanical and manipulative means. (see podiatrycanada.org)

  3. When should someone see a Podiatrist?
  4. Any painful or problematic foot condition should be consideration to see a Podiatrist.

  5. What are orthotics and why should a Podiatrist be the prescriber?
  6. Orthotics are a prescribed devices custom made for the individual foot to help alleviate pain and prevent problems in the foot, ankle and related structures. Podiatrists are the foot care specialists and have extensive training in biomechanics related to the determination of appropriate corrective functional device to help you.

  7. How often should orthotics be changed?
  8. They should be reviewed every two years at a minimum.

  9. Is there a fee charged to see a Podiatrist?
  10. Podiatry is not covered by Saskatchewan Health. All Podiatry services are provided by private practitioners who are regulated by the Saskatchewan College of Podiatrists (see scop.ca)

  11. Do you need a referral to see a Podiatrist?
  12. It is not necessary to get referred however having a referral provides more information and also may be mandated by your insurance to get reimbursed.
